Holiday Decorating in White Part III

(west elm)
I love decorating for the Holidays, especially decorating in tones of white. Over the years at Willow Decor my "Holiday Decorating in White Series" remain my most popular Holiday posts.

I spend all year collecting images near and far to bring you beautiful examples to inspire you to recreate in your own home. I was quite taken with this little blue spruce tree sprayed with "snow", wrapped with burlap and adorned with small mercury glass ornaments. Wouldn't this look so sweet on a table or a sideboard?

Of course tablescapes are always an easy way to introduce a beautiful theme to your decorating. If you are planning any holiday dinners this table is lovely and simple to recreate. Small bunches of white carnations in tiny vases sit amid votive candles and bunches of Paperwhites. The glass just sparkles!

Here is a similar theme by Preston Bailey but much more dramatic. Each vase of white flowers is a bit larger and the huge fabricated flowers are stunning.

This table is so pretty and it could work for almost any holiday in any season. The flowers hanging above the table are gorgeous. It is likely a chandelier covered with the greenery.
I love this room from Ikea UK -so many great and inexpensive ideas! The mantel is very chic and not costly to recreate. The plates, glass hurricanes and candles can all be found at Ikea very reasonably priced. Add some garland, a few homespun ornaments and presto- chic mantel! I also like the addition of wrapped presents as decorations. The stack of presents looks fabulous under the glass table. Finally the branches adorned with ornaments add a festive flair.
This room from Country Living is a perfect exercise in Holiday decorating with restraint. The lovely chair, rug and gauzy drapes would be completely overwhelmed with heavy holiday decorations. A small white feather tree modestly adorned is a perfect compliment. I also like the small gift on the chair. Very sweet.
Another exercise in restraint, here mercury glass and wreaths are the only addition to this room from Coastal Living, but it still says "Holiday" to me. Sometimes less is more.

The final photo is very modern and chic table from Valorie at Visual Vamp. Fresh and classy!

Holiday Decorating in White - Part II

One of my most popular Holiday posts last year was the piece I did on Holiday Decorating in White. Why are we so drawn to decorating with white? Is the simplicity? Or perhaps the way it sets our everyday things off with a magical glow? My favorite part of decorating in this way is that it enhances your rooms rather than overpowering them. They become more elegant, more festive, more magical, but all the while still remain your same beautiful rooms.
(studio house design)
Let's try to picture the room above with out any Holiday decor. It is a lovely room - neutral with a bit of sparkle from the crystal lamps and silvery wall coverings. Perhaps the mercury glass is out all year. Now, look how the holiday accents add to the beauty of this room. The tree adorned in white, glass and silver ornaments and really becomes a focal point. Then add in the glittery branches and small wreath on the mantel; and the white roses and silver wrapped packages and you have an elegant room for holiday entertaining.
(hgtv)
This homeowner must have a large home to have a room set aside for a winter wonderland. I generally do not like white flocked trees, but these look lovely as a backdrop for the large green tree and winter white Santa. Perhaps this is a sunroom or conservatory that rarely gets used in the winter months.
(Country Living)
I love this room. Here just a few items set off this neutral room with a holiday glow. The mantel is adorned with branches and a white wreath, while a white decorated tree stands front and center. I like the packages all wrapped in coordinating paper.
(studio house design)
Here is another room with silvery branches. I really like the ornaments hanging in front of the mirror and the addition of eucalyptus. Again a predominately white tree and coordinating wrapped packages add elegance.
(hgtv)
This room comes alive with addition of white linen, white lights and greenery. The two trees on the mantel really add a lot of interest and sparkle, but my favorites are the white stockings by the fire and stocking adorned with greenery hanging on the shutters.
(Country Living)
Here is a simple vignette worth looking at because it can be adapted to any decor. This home owner has a lovely collection of white pottery, by adding small boxwood wreaths and a few ornaments you instantly create a holiday display.
(Country Home)
This room, adorned with long white chair skirts and gorgeous table cloth is perfectly accented with small burlap wrapped trees under glass. I love these Holiday terrariums and also the greenery tied with jute string on the backs of chairs.
(Country Living)
Another table set with items that bring the outdoors in. Here glass apothecary jars are filled with pine cones and small vases hold flowers and evergreens.
(Country Living)
I love the use of cast iron garden urns as vases. This one is lovely filled with lilies and flanked with evergreens.
(Country Living)
Here a white washed cast iron urn is filled with moss. Coordinating colored ornaments become more special displayed in silver bowl under glass. This simple effect can be added to any room and any color scheme.
(Country Living)
I love when people carry holiday decorating into the bedrooms. Here guests wake up to white trees, garland and white linen stockings draped along the footboard.
(Country Home)
Finally some cream and white antique linen stockings. Each tucked with sprigs of boxwood create a special holiday look that can be used in any area of your home.

Holiday Decorating in White

Martha Stewart

Why do we love using white for the holidays? Perhaps its the way it sets off the table setting or the tree, or decorations in such a way that makes everything look fresh and magical. Here are some of my favorite holiday decorated rooms. Some of these photos I have been saving for years and may not remember where they came from. If you recognize any as your own please let me know so I can give credit to these wonderful images.

Above, an entry way with fresh greenery and a moss wreath. Cast iron urns and small trees add to the wonderful mix of textures.

Min Lilla Veranda
A small tree decorated in the traditional Scandinavian style with real lighted clip on candles. Windows adorned with fresh greenery and a gingerbread house on the counter. I love the warmth and simplicity of this room.

Finikanten
What a beautiful dining room! I love the small flowers at each place setting. I also like the way the three trees, only adorned with white lights, bring your eye out of the room. They add a simplicity to the what could be a very formal and fussy space.

Perfect for a cozy holiday breakfast. Just the right amount of decorations. Notice the pine-cones and fresh greenery. This is a simple look to duplicate in your own home. All you need is a white tablecloth, a linen topper and them some items found in your back yard. Don't forget the candles!
Marie Claire Maison
Austere, but very chic. Not necessarily something I would choose but I like the interesting tree and the how it adds so much texture to the room.

Ikea
Another more modern look, but also lovely and elegant. The wonderful chandeliers add drama. I especially love the angels.
Dreamhouse
I have had this picture so long and I absolutely love it. Is it the black server, the linen, the wreath, the canisters?? I love the pears and the ornaments. This picture makes me want sit at this table and share a cup a tea with friends. (It also makes me think I should start painting some of my pine pieces black.)

Annette Hus
Another room I adore! I especially like the wreaths on every chair. A simple tree with small lights and homemade linen ornaments. (A tip: make sure you hot glue some linen or cloth to the backs of the wreaths so you do not have sap and dirt on your chairs later.)

A simple spray of white paint or spray snow transforms the ordinary into extraordinary.

Is this bark or linen? Either way, with the branches and the berries it had a wonderful unusual texture and makes a unique wreath.

Two more white wreaths-both simple and beautiful.

Finally - a sweet vignette that you can do anywhere in your home. Just find a small chair, add a tray or plate with candles and some greenery and at tiny wreath - viola !
